A common question in our industry is about picture quality.
Of course, if you are spending the money on a laser engraved crystal you will
want to be sure the turnout will be good. After all these do last forever! Here
at Goodcount we are good at checking every order received from quality of the
picture to the customer concerns on the notes section of the order. Once we
receive your order we will go over all of the general details and make sure the
proper selections are made.
EX: 3D 1 head shot is not the correct selection with a
family of 3 heads. If you have a family picture of 3 heads you will need to
select 3D 3 head shots.
Another thing we will check is the quality of your picture.
This is a major detail we take seriously because well, your picture and the
turnout has everything to do with the order. So, we do check the quality. A
general rule to pay attention to is clarity. The more clear your picture is,
the more clear your engraving will be. If details are hard to see from a bright
sun or too dark from being in a dark room then the engraved image will also
have these issues.
The pictures on our website were engraved using high quality
pictures at 300 DPI resolution or were 640x480 pixels. This is how you will
receive the absolute best turn out for your engraving. However, we understand
not everyone knows how to find this so to help and as a part of our services we
do this work for you and check when we receive your order!
You do not want your picture size to be too small. Let’s say
you are cropping the 1 person you would like in the picture from a group of 5.
This may not be the best picture to submit because you have made the picture
smaller. Our suggestion is to submit the full version of the picture and let us
know who you want, we will crop out the others for you to help assure the size
stays large and your engraving has a good result.

Another picture
submission to avoid is pictures of pictures. These do not come out good.
Remember that general rule mentioned earlier, if the picture does not look
clear then neither will your engraving? Pictures of pictures typically show a
glare, have a slight blur due to movement of taking the picture and typically
show the hand, camera or other things in front of it. Unless you like these
optical illusions we suggest not submitting these or they will show in the
engraving. If you do not have a scanner it’s ok, mail us the picture and we
will scan it for you for free and mail it back to you with your order.
Picture of picture vs. properly scanned picture above.
When going over the details of every order we focus a lot on
the pictures for obvious reasons. However, we also look for requests such as to
engrave the picture vertically or horizontally. Unfortunately, we cannot read
minds and like it when our customers let us know what they are expecting. If
there is a request we cannot meet me are sure to contact the customer and let
them know why and our suggestions. Also, unless we are requested to keep the
background it will be cropped out and removed to focus on the faces. We also
will crop your pictures to head shots unless specified not to or you have
selected a 3D option for more than head shots.
We hope that this information helps to clear up a common
question about picture quality expectation for our orders. Please know that
every employee at Goodcount is a part of a team to handle your order from the
point we receive your order till the point it has been delivered to your front
door. We also hope that this will also help to simplify your picture selections
and assure you that we will care for every order received!
